sleep patterns

All out of whack, went back to the hotel after dinner last night and fell asleep almost immediately. Woke up some hours later and ended up watching Beetlejuice followed by The Newton Boys, at which point I turned of the tube and read some out of my book Knife of Dreams.

Do I need to mention that I am not feeling my best this morning? Flight home to look forward to though, so this day has a good ending forcast.

Chocolate Factory

Friday, Sarieah had to run an errand, to get materials for Solstice and birthday gifts. Thinking the store was next to the mall, she brought us all along to go to the dollar theater. We decided to take the kids to the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

We arrived late, as we hadn’t counted on the traffic, but as we ended up tangled in the traffic, we realized how silly it was to run to the mall on the day after thanksgiving. Sarieah and Zakiaya went in to get seats while the boys and I bought popcorn. When the three of us got into the theater Sarieah was sitting down, though she wasn’t able to find seats for all of us together. I ended up in the second row with the boys. I think its the same seats I ended up in for A Series of Unfortunate Events.

As with the last movie Keigan and I saw, he continued to point out where the story deviated from the book. What was up with the flashbacks?

Zakiaya took issue with the squirrels carting away Veruka Salt. For some reason, having wild squirrels running around the house a few months ago, connected with the squirrels carrying Veruka to the garbage, was a little much for her.

Goblet of Fire

Keigan and I went to see the new Harry Potter movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire . Keigan came out of this movie, complaining about the number of things they left out. I had to point out that at 2 hours and 45 minutes they had to cut out so much because of the length.

His main complaint was not hearing Mad Eye Moody explain at the end why and what he had done. I missed them building up the relationship between Moody and Harry.

Caden disappointed that he was unable to go to the movie, until he has read the book has started back into his efforts at learning to read. He is working real hard at sounding out words, and we have started reading the first Harry Potter to him.

Tonight, as I finished the 2nd chapter, Caden figured out that it will take me almost 5 months to read the first 4 books in their entirety to him.

Library Movies

As I’ve said before the Eugene Public Library has a wonderful movie supply. We received and email notice today that Million Dollar Baby was in for us to pick up. Looking at Amazon I find that it was released onto DVD only 2 months ago, so they are definitely keeping up with the newer releases.

Also tonight I picked up The Tall Guy and Saved! While I tend to look for new releases at the library, we also get a fair share of older movies. I tend to be more liberal in my selection when at the library as opposed to renting. I don’t mind picking out a bad movie when I’m not paying for it, but ask me to hand over some hard earned cash to see a bad movie? You’ve got to be kidding.

Garden State

We watched Garden State last night. It was suprising to see Natalie Portman actually animated. For me that was the best part of the movie, I couldn’t actually stay awake for the whole thing. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing for a movie. We tend to watch a lot of movies from the library late at night when we are tired, just to have something to fall asleep to. S liked the movie, she commented more than once on Natalie’s behavior. So in the Siskel and Ebert tradition I would have to rate this 1 wakeful watcher and 1 softly snoring.
