Sunny and 65

We ended up with a beautiful day, sandwiched in between several days of rain on either side. We left Sarieah cooped up studying Biology and Chemistry with a classsmate and made our escape for a wonderful late afternoon and evening walk. The kids and I took the dog on a walk down to the river, where half the city was trying to walk and bike on the trails. Heading across the river we made a stop at the pet store, as well as a quick dinner at Mucho Gusto, Caden’s current favorite. We almost had to pass this up as Keigan has just finished reading Chew On This and with the militancy only a youth is capable of, has sworn off fast food. Pointing out to him that Mucho Gusto is a local company and not a large chain seemed to do the trick.

After dinner we continued on the north side of the river down to Alton Baker Park and the bridge back to the south side. A promised stop at the new and improved playground, kept us until well after the sun had set. A quick diversion into the Rose garden and a long wait for the train rounded out the walk getting us back home 4 hours after starting out.

As I was starting to clean up from the lunch dishes that had mysteriously not made it to the kitchen, Caden announced that he had vommitted. Taking care of him and getting him into a nice relaxing tub, I started back to the kitchen cleanup, listening to his older brother read to them while Caden soaked. 2 pages into the book, Kiaya came running out screaming bloody murder, with blood dripping from her mouth. She had been squatting on the closed lid of the toilet, with her hands pulled inside her sweatshirt, listening to the story. A slight tip off balance and she had hit her upper lip on the ledge of the tub, with no arms available to stop her.

Rinsing her mouth out we looked, a nice gash on her lip, and her upper tooth seems to be pushed back a tad, but it didn’t feel loose, nor did it bother her as i tried to wiggle any of the teeth in that area. This is the second or third time she has hit those front teeth, and I’m constantly amazed they are still firmly rooted in place. As she calmed down, sucking on a dishtowel wrapped around an ice pack, we made the switch in the tub, Caden out, Kiaya in.

Back to the kitchen I went to futilely try and finish up the kitchen, I was interrupted by the phone, Sarieah was needing a ride home.

Trick Camera

Kiaya came downstairs, asking to take my picture. As I dried my face from the squirt of water that hit me as she “took” my picture, she laughed and laughed. I fall for it every time.

Spilt Milk

I asked Kiaya to put the milk away, as I headed upstairs. On my way down, I met her ate the base of the stairs, she was just starting up, to ask my help.

“Dad, I spilt the milk.”

“How bad”, as I pictured the open carton all over the floor.

“Real Bad!”

Ok, so now I was picturing milk running down the shelves in the refrigerator. Walking into the kitchen, I saw random splatters all over the counter. Not so bad after all. We quickly clean it up using the sponge, then I go to sit down at my desk. Milk splattered over teh keyboard and monitor.

If you are going to shake the milk, make sure the lid is on securely.

The Concert that almost wasn't

Last thursday we all rushed out the door, on the way to being late to Keigan’s first school Orchestra concert. We all piled into the VW, and headed down the street. About a block away the engine started to sound funny, as if it weren’t getting any gas, always a bad sign, but with a faulty gauge, it is something we(I) have learned to deal with. We pushed it out of traffic, and while they all sat in the back, I grabbed the container from up on top and started running.

Back in a few minutes with 1 gallon, we started out again. Sarieah dropped Keigan and I off at the door and went looking for a place to park. Keigan and I entered by the back door, it looked as though we had missed it and they were already playing. As we entered the building and could hear what was going on, we realized they were still in the introductions. Keigan grabbed his violin, and took his place as the musicians shifted in their seats and adjusted their music stands for the last time before beginning.

I am in the processes of editing the tape for viewing but will have something up at some point soon.

Marley Corn

Listening to Bob Marley when I picked up Caden from school. As he listened along, he finally asked who we were listening to. When I said Marley, he told me they were singing a song about him at school. I thought for a while but couldn’t figure out what song he meant.

Finally he helped me out by mentioning that it had to do with corn. Thats when it all became clear, Bob MarleyCorn, or as its better known John BarleyCorn.
