Go Sox

The whole house is clustered around the television, rooting for the White Sox . having the laptop with me, it is an intreresting way to watch the game, I get to control the color. Earlier the camera flashed on a hat with an older Sox Logo, a quick google search away, and I knew the logo was the one I grew up with in the late 70’s and 80’s.

Interested in Ozzie Guillens record, I was able to check his career, 14 years with the Sox ‘85 – ‘97.

As the Sox where in trouble in the bottom of the 9th and they continued to pitch balls to intentionally walk Berkman, having the batting averages in front of me enabled me to calm everyone down, and explain the strategy.

2 outs bottom of the tenth still going.

Fat Tuesdays

With the city market across the street from our new office buildings, Tuesdays have turned into the day. everyone manages to get out and enjoy the weather at lunchtime, grabbing their fresh produce, and sitting in the sun and just enjoying the break from the day.

We have discussed things to do to give our work week another day to look forward to, but all so far have come to naught. Once again this week I failed to plan appropriately. I started the day with a cup of coffee from bagel sphere, had a coupon for a free cup. Then at the start of the lunch hour I walked the two blocks to the library and back in time to still get the weeks produce shopping done. I keep an extra canvas bag at my desk just for Tuesdays.

Mid afternoon I got a call reminding me that Keigan’s Baseball team was going to the Ems game tonight, and that I needed to leave a few minutes early.

Both boys got to take part in the pregame program, Keigan’s team was the featured kids team that takes the field with the Ems as they are called out onto the field prior to the national anthem. No, I forgot the camera both video and still. We had a debate about whether or not to take it, and neither of us realized they would be on the field. Keigan ran out with the first baseman, while Caden took the field with the second baseman. We could have left right then and not missed much, but as it was we stayed till the end of the 7th, with the Ems down 14 -3.

Peanuts and Crackerjacks

Took all three kids out to the game last night. Was a big disapointment, the Ems lost 11-2. Remind me not to sit in front of a tee ball team. We ended up with Nacho cheese spilled on our seat. Luckily it mostly missed us.

Kiaya has great faith in her brother, she asked when he would be pitching there. Should be just a few more years.

The big excitement was after the game they let the kids run around the bases. They said it seemed a lot farther than they were used too.

End of the Season

Sunday afternoon, Keigan's baseball season came to an end, with a 9-8 loss to the team they beat 17-6 on Thursday night. He was supposed to have ended on Saturday afternoon, but two teams dropped out of the 5 team tournament( they being the top two teams) so the bottom 3 teams had a round robin and we split our two games, ending up with the silver medals.

The best part of the season for us was watching Keigan get all fired up about the game. He has always said he is interested in baseball, but this year he really worked at it. Two years ago when he was playing coach pitch, he was left out in right field for most of the games, until he asked the coach if he could play infield. After a hesitant Yes he proved himself by making several key plays at third, but he still wasn't a regular at that position. This year when asked where he wanted to play, he was sure he wanted the infield, not being interested in pitching at the time. This season he has played al the infield positions, usually being at first or shortstop.

Halfway through the season, it was apparent that the team needed some more pitchers to get them through the season. Keigan came home from one practice, and had me out playing catcher, something we have continued doing on a regular basis. Keigan pitched 2 and 2/3 innings yesterday, twice coming back from a 3-0 count to get the strikeout. He also knew when he was having troubles, and talked about it after the game, the last out of the last inning was a little difficult to get.

World Series

We head off to the weekend on an upswing, Keigan's team played games the last two nights. Wednesdays game ended in a tie, while Thursdays was a solid win.

Keigan pitched 2 innings again, with 4 strikeouts, two walks, and two fly outs. He managed to snag one, while Joe popped out of a daydream right in time to catch the ball in his glove.

I am taking off now for the game to clinch the wildcard spot in the tourney.
