Snow
As you can see we had a bit of unusual weather. Last nights news showed that we had received 5 inches of snow yesterday. It was incredible to watch as it came down in the largest flakes I have ever seen, easily the size of half dollars. I did a little research and we didn’t break any records, back in 1943 we had 6.5 inches of snow in one day, as well as several 5.5 inch days sprinkled in the last 70 years.
Needless to say the kids are home today, they don’t have the equipment to get the hills cleaned up quickly enough. Today’s forecast includes more snow, followed by 2 days of rain, with nighttime temperatures above freezing. Hopefully the kids can go back to school tomorrow.
P.S. The above photo was taken with the new camera!
Ouch
Hillary cant be happy with this opening paragraph
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Barack Obama routed Hillary Rodham Clinton in the racially charged South Carolina primary Saturday night, regaining campaign momentum in the prelude to a Feb. 5 coast-to-coast competition for more than 1,600 Democratic National Convention delegates.
Understanding that her campaign has been trying to lower expectations, ahead of todays primary, Im not sure that they wanted to lower expectations all the way to include the use of the word “Routed” while describing the loss.
But whatever the final percentages, it’s definitely good news for Rudy.
Primary vote
Several weeks ago, I complained that by the time I am actually able to cast a vote, the nomination will already be sewn up. I still believe that is the case, but I am still looking forward to being able to vote.
The other night at dinner we had a talk about the voting trends, and I jokingly said that I was going to have to vote for John Edwards, as he is the White Male candidate. Unfortunately Kiaya didn’t understand the humor and we spent a long time explaining to her that nobody can tell you how to thing and who to vote for, especially based on something as silly as race or gender.
With Keigan asking who we are going to vote for, I was reminded of new years 2001, right after shrub stole the election. We went out to visit some acquaintances, luckily we were forewarned that they were rethuglicans. We managed to avoid talk of politics for most of the night, but at some point in the night we mentioned that we hadn’t been excited over Clinton as a president. Keigan had the best line of the night, as he was the eldest child (6) there and was trying to hang with the adults, as he turned and said that Clinton wasn’t liberal enough. Definitely the opposite of what was expected.
I think of that now, and think that Keigan’s answer at the time is still apropos. I still see Clinton, Hillary this time, as not liberal enough.
cold snap
We just had a week of cold weather, where the morning temperatures where into the 20’s and the highs just barely hitting 40 if we were lucky. This next week looks a little better, the highs move up a few degrees, but the lows move up above freezing.
We have definitely started a countdown to when we see warmer temperatures.
FISA
The President has said that American lives will be sacrificed if Congress does not change FISA. But he has also said that he will veto any FISA bill that does not grant retro-active immunity. No immunity, no FISA bill. So if we take the President at his word, he’s willing to let Americans die to protect the phone companies.
