Flurries
Still holding steady with a forecast of flurries!
Less Jobs, More Wars
John McCain added another plank to his platform yesterday with his ducking of the vote on the economic stimulus package. Screw the vets
Voting “no” with Republican leaders would have offended millions of Social Security recipients and the disabled veterans not scheduled to receive rebates. Voting “yes,” on the other hand, risked alienating Bush, GOP leaders and conservatives already suspicious of McCain’s political leanings. McCain was speaking Thursday before a meeting of the Conservative Political Action Conference, a group that booed him last year in absentia. For McCain, not voting meant not going on the record either way. He has missed all eight Senate roll call votes this year.
IL-03
I might not live there anymore, but I can still hope that Dan Lipinski can lose his primary challenge by Mark Pera.
Slush
And the rain and snow continues. I went to a parents meeting at the school tonight, while there we saw a flash of lightning, and the rumble of thunder. That in itself was odd, as we don’t often get thundershowers, even in the summer time, but for it to happen in January was really odd.
After the meeting I walked out to the car to find the windows coated in a thick pile of slush. Looks like the kids will have a 2 hour delay in the morning. Best not to tell them or they want to sleep in, and have the ritual out of bed struggle at the later time. It’s definitely easier to get them up at the normal time, expressing wonder at the weather and let them get all excited, about the possibility of a snow day.
I realize I keep writing about the snow, and in any other location we have lived, a few inches on the ground wouldn’t be anything of interest, but here it’s so far out of the usual weather that I find myself compelled to comment on it.
We didn’t see any snow for the first two winters we were here, with just a day or 2 last year and then this year we have had snow on 3 or 4 days this last month.
10K
Not sure what else needs to be said. I pushed myself just a little further today and got to the 10K mark. While running I was trying to do the conversion in my head to figure out what distance in Kilometers equalled a quarter of a marathon. I figured it as 11 to be on the safe side, while it actually turns out to be 10.5, I should have gone around the block once more so that I could have hit that distance. but now I know I can complete the first quarter. One down and three to go!
