A combination of events in the last few weeks has brought the family tree back into focus here. First a school assignment to produce a family tree, in Keigan’s case dating back to 1778. Secondly a moldy closet, and last the launch of Geni.
School assignment is actually to interview a relative, and or produce a family tree showing a connection to some event. Keigan choose to talk about the Cherry Valley Massacre and highlight his family connection to the Clyde family.
All of the notes I have on the family history are stored in the front closet. With the recent cold spell, we noticed a growth of mold on the inner walls. I suspect lack of proper insulation, as well as no air flow, as the culprit. We have now gone through the entire stash of crap, and reorganized it. Getting rid of numerous items in the process.
everyone’s related is the subtitle to Geni, a flash based interface to creating your family tree. It is definitely aimed for casual users, as most of its features are about keeping track of your living family. In less than one evening of inputting data, I ran into some of its limitations. Though they promise to work on them in future releases. What stopped my work was the lack of support for intermarriages within branches of a family, as you go far enough back, this becomes critical.
